An evidence-based case of haemorrhagic left ovarian cyst cured by Natrum muriaticum

Present complaints:

A 20-year-old unmarried girl Miss. A (A-11481; OC-716) came on 20.5.2021 for the treatment of left ovarian cyst diagnosed by ultrasonography of pelvis on 19.5.2021. She reported to have pain in lower abdomen before menses since June 2020.

Associated complaints:

Heaviness in abdomen with belching, flatulence esp. after eating and constipation since 2015.

Pain cervical and occipital region with vertigo at times since 2018.

Past history:

Left renal calculi in 2015.

Family history:

Father: Hypertension; Mother: Diabetes

Treatment history:

Lycopodium 200, China 30, Alumina 30 prescribed by homoeopathic physician elsewhere.

Menstrual history:

Her menses were regular, adequate, lasting 4-5 days, clotted and painful (LMP: 19.5.2021).

Initial Ultrasonography of pelvis (19.5.2021):

A cystic lesion of 44 x 32 mm in left ovary s/o haemorrhagic cyst. Few (2-3mm) concretions seen in middle calyx of right kidney.

Life Space:

She is a very simple girl living in a conservative joint family. One of her classmate used to tease her in college campus since May 2020 which she ignored to avoid defamation. Later he started harassing her on way to college and while returning home. She was very frightened as to what will be the reaction of parents and family members if they come to know about it. She told her elder brother and the problem was resolved after his interference.

Justification of Prescription:

Ailments from fright, offended easily, weeping easily, sadness and weeping when alone favoured the selection of Natrum muriaticum.

Date-wise Follow-up:

May 20, 2021: Natrum mur. 30 weekly followed by placebo for 4 weeks.

June 22, 2021: Pain, heaviness in abdomen with flatulence and constipation reduced. Same prescription repeated for 4 weeks.

August 9, 2021: Over all better. Same prescription for 4 weeks. Patient was advised for repeat ultrasonography of pelvis.

September 12, 2021: Patient clinically asymptomatic. Ultrasonography of pelvis dated 10.9.21 revealed complete resolution of left ovarian cyst.

Final ultrasonography of pelvis (10.9.2021):

Normal scan.
