🌿 A Case of Recurrent UTI with Miasmatical Understanding

Dr. Archana Khade

Mrs S, a tall and heavily built married woman in her early 30s, with height around 5.7’ and overweight about 102 kgs, came to my clinic on 4th June 2025 with complaints of recurrent urinary tract infections (UTI) for the past 6 months—on and off since November 2024, the most severe one being in May 2025. She had taken antibiotics twice in this duration (November and April), and in between relied only on home remedies like dhania water, which relieved. She had

Despite repeated complaints, her urine culture in April 2025 was negative. Interestingly, she had only one such UTI episode before marriage, in August 2024. The recurrence began post-marriage, with no history of fever or travel. She had marked evening aggravation of burning and urging, < contact, standing, > sitting, and > during sleep. She had to change her undergarments twice daily due to dampness. She reported perspiration around genitalia and beneath fatty folds (under breasts), yet had no foul odour. Appetite was normal; thirst for 2–3 bottles of water a day.

She has had accidental burns (unrelated but weakened her vitality) after her marriage as well. On a general level, she was a chilly patient, craved sweets (with a twinkle in her eye), and disliked most vegetables. She slept peacefully on her stomach. In physical generals, she had irritability before menses, cramps in the lower abdomen and thighs during periods, and dark clotted blood with otherwise light-coloured flow. There were no complaints of leucorrhea or hormonal imbalance otherwise.

Emotional and Mental Profile: She appeared cheerful and communicative. A self-driven workaholic, she had changed jobs even during her marriage preparations, pointing to her ambition and leadership traits. She was fastidious, often correcting others for not keeping things in place. Despite her confident exterior, she harboured anxiety about the disease, especially fearing it would affect her marital life. She had no significant past trauma, was indolent at times, and showed hopefulness and a positive outlook. She was the youngest in her family, extroverted, and had a stable personality.

🧬 Miasmatic Understanding:

The case showed a clear dominance of sycotic miasm, and psoric traits were also evident in her anxiety and irritability.

💊 Prescription & Follow-up:

Although Sulphur had a higher numerical score, as seen in the Repertorization table above, it was not selected because the patient’s personality and general traits did not correspond with the classical Sulphur picture. She was fastidious, well-groomed, and concerned about order and appearance, which contrasts with the typical untidy, indifferent, and neglectful nature of Sulphur patients. Mentally, she was ambitious, structured, and socially confident, lacking the philosophical detachment or careless attitude seen in Sulphur types. Therefore, Lycopodium was chosen as it better matched the physical, mental, and emotional characteristics of the patient.

I prescribed Lycopodium 0/3 daily, followed by Cantharis 200 for acute support.

She had a verbal follow-up asking if they can continue the medications as she was having relief. On 28th June 2025, exactly 24 days after the first consultation, the patient returned completely symptom-free, with her husband. The gratitude they expressed and their glowing smiles reminded me of the very essence of healing that Dr. Hahnemann envisioned—not just the removal of symptoms, but the restoration of harmony.
